Tokoroa Hash House Harriers has revived itself after a 25 year recess, and some survivors and family members are supporting its rejuvenation.
Hash House Harriers is a casual fun run with a mystery trail that suits many levels of skill and fitness. With more walkers joining, then the walking trail will definitely be supported by the week’s trailmaster.
The trail is set in flour and has specific markings including a circle for a “Check” – a break in the trail where the fitter members search out possible real or false trails while the slower members catch their breath and have a chat. The call “ON-ON” signifies the true trail has been found and off we go again, also yelling the chant at the confirmation markings of the true trail.
The trail is set for about a 50-60 minute run (6-8kms) and a walking trail of a similar duration. Afterwards we have refreshments and a chat and sometimes a BBQ. The run starts at 6pm from the designated place that week on the Wednesday, and is from a different location each week.
I know of folks who have become married after visiting other “Hash Invitation Runs” elsewhere in the country, in fact two local marriages were formed in the days gone by.
Come and join us and have a casual run, perhaps one day you may enjoy a half marathon or something – one never knows…
